Asia Japan Alumni (ASJA) International was launched on April 1, 2000, with the support of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We implement programs aimed at assisting international students, primarily from the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

objectives
We promote mutual understanding and networking among former international students to Japan from Asia-Pacific countries by means of cul-tural and scientific exchange and various projects relating to international friendship.

In order to further cultural and scientific exchange among those who have studied in Japan, ASJA encourages cooperation with the ASEAN Council of Japan Alumni* and other institutions.

* ASEAN Council of Japan Alumni (ASCOJA)
In 1974 the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs began hosting gReunions of Former Students in Japan from Southeast Asian Countriesh upon the suggestion of Minister of Finance Takeo Fukuda (who later became prime minister). The reunion participants played a central role in establishing ASCOJA in June 1977 in order to promote exchange among alumni associations of former international students from ASEAN countries to Japan. At present there are 9 countries participating in ASCOJA: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Myanmar,Cambodia, and Viet Nam.
